KUALA PILAH: All key positions in the Community Development Department (Kemas) must be made permanent as part of efforts to strengthen staff welfare and provide better career prospects, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said he had directed the Kemas director-general to introduce a new service scheme offering better salaries and employment terms for Kemas teachers, many of whom are currently employed on contract.
"I have instructed the Kemas director-general to look into a new service scheme for all Kemas teachers with more attractive salaries and employment packages," he said.
"I have also instructed the director-general to ensure that all key positions in Kemas are made permanent," Ahmad Zahid added when launching the Negeri Sembilan Skills Day and Kemas Alpha-Gen Talent Programme here on Saturday (July 25).
He said the move was not linked to the upcoming Negri Sembilan state election, but was intended to recognise the contributions of Kemas teachers and staff to the country's human capital development.
Ahmad Zahid also praised Kemas for its achievements, adding that its early childhood education institutions had received international recognition from Reader's Digest for six consecutive years.
"The commitment shown by Kemas teachers and staff has earned global recognition, proving that we can continue to move forward," he said.
"Never underestimate the capabilities of Kemas across the country."
