Seven flood mitigation projects worth RM400mil approved for Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: A total of seven new projects worth RM410.37mil have been approved for Terengganu under the First Rolling Plan (RP1) 2026 of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently.

Terengganu Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) director Osman Abdullah said the approval was part of the Federal Government's ongoing efforts to strengthen irrigation and drainage infrastructure as well as flood mitigation measures in the state.

He said among the major projects approved were the Rusila Coastal Erosion Control Project, Marang worth RM140mil; the Sungai Buaya Local Flood Plan, Kuala Nerus (RM198.17mil) and the Anak Sungai Ibai Local Flood Plan, Kuala Terengganu (RM10mil).

"Also approved are the River Conservation Project to reduce flood risk (RM25mil); Line 28 Drainage System for Kampung Mak Chili Paya, Kemaman (RM29.5mil); Kemaman Environmentally Friendly Drainage Master Plan (Pisma) (RM3.2mil) and the Dungun River Basin Flood Mitigation Master Plan Study (RM4.5mil).

"Alhamdulillah, this approval will have a major impact on reducing flood risk and the well-being of residents in the affected areas," he said after a DID Phase 2 Flood Forecasting and Warning Programme Briefing with the media here on Sunday (Oct 26).

Osman said that at the same time, approval was also given for 18 existing extension projects, bringing the total value of projects under the state DID for 13MP to RM2.21bil. – Bernama
