Crackdown on illegal gambling, 150 arrested in major police operation

PETALING JAYA: A large-scale anti-vice operation earlier this month resulted in the arrest of approximately 150 individuals involved in operating illegal gambling dens.

In a statement released on Sunday (Oct 26), Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar, said that the raids took place on Oct 9 at seven locations in Damansara and Subang Jaya.

These locations were identified as hubs for developing online gambling platforms, supplying slot machines and providing spare parts for both local and international markets.

As a result of these raids, a total of 147 individuals, aged 20 to 50, were arrested, including 140 Malaysians and seven foreigners.

Authorities also seized multiple devices during the operation, including 139 laptops and 182 phones.

"Investigations revealed that none of the raided premises had obtained permission to operate activities involving the supply of gambling machines, spare parts and the development of online gambling platforms," he stated.

Additionally, the deputy public prosecutor has agreed to charge 133 of the suspects. All seven foreign suspects would also face charges under the Immigration Act.

"The police take this matter seriously and remain committed to upholding the law, particularly in efforts to combat and curb the spread of online gambling activities," he added.
