No lockdown in KL during Asean Summit, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: There will be no lockdown in Kuala Lumpur during Asean Summit 2025 with only selected roads closed around the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to ease traffic, says government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister also said that the Asean Summit to be held this Sunday (Oct 26) to Monday will be covered by the largest number of media personnel ever at an Asean Summit.

“There will be more than 300 media personnel from Japan alone," said Fahmi at the weekly post-Cabinet briefing to the media here on Friday.

"There will be no lockdown in Kuala Lumpur. There will be certain road closures, and the routes are as announced. Only on Oct 26, the area around KLCC will be closed off. Any further questions on this should be referred to the Kuala Lumpur police chief,” he said.

On a separate matter, he said that a report claiming that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Religious Affairs Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar had allegedly ordered agencies or departments under his purview to close unregistered pondok schools in Kelantan and Kedah was false.

"We have filed a report on this fake news to the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)," said Fahmi.

Na'im has denied issuing such a directive and described the allegation as false, malicious and defamatory.

"It is evident that this act of immorality and slander is being spread without citing any authentic or official source.

"Spreading baseless accusations, especially those involving sensitive issues such as religious institutions, is irresponsible and can threaten societal harmony," he said in a Facebook post on Thursday night.
