Couple arrested after man reports stepmother for abusing maid

SERDANG: A man lodged a police report against his own stepmother after discovering that she had allegedly abused her domestic helper.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the 37-year-old complainant was alerted to the abuse by his step-sibling on Sunday (Oct 19).

“The man was informed via text message that the maid had been scalded when hot water was poured into her mouth after she used some soy sauce without permission.

“Before this, the victim had also been abused — her chest was pinched, causing injuries and wounds, hot water was poured onto her leg, and her teeth were broken after being kicked by the suspect,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Police investigations led to the arrest of a 59-year-old woman on Monday. The victim, a 47-year-old Indonesian woman, was rescued.

Follow-up investigations resulted in the arrest of the suspect’s 59-year-old husband on Oct 23.

“The case was brought to the Klang Sessions Court on Friday, where both suspects pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at RM20,000 each with one surety, and their passports were surrendered to the court,” ACP Muhamad Farid said.
