JKR closes Jalan Tun Sardon until Oct 25 following landslide

BALIK PULAU: The Penang Public Works Department (JKR) has announced the full closure of state road P14, Jalan Tun Sardon (Bukit Baru), here starting Thursday (Oct 23) until 6pm this Saturday.

The closure follows a landslide reported along Jalan Tun Sardon this afternoon due to continuous heavy rain since early morning.

JKR said the road closure was necessary to facilitate clean-up works and other related repairs to be carried out by the appointed contractor.

"Road users in the affected area are urged to cooperate throughout the closure period and are advised to use alternative routes and plan their journeys accordingly," the department said in a Facebook statement on Thursday.

Earlier, it was reported stated that the 5pm incident also caused several trees to fall, blocking the road in the area, nearly hitting motorists.

The main route linking Balik Pulau and Paya Terubong was subsequently closed to all traffic after being covered by soil and fallen trees, posing a risk to motorists.

A car’s dashcam posted only has also captured the moment the landslide occurred, narrowly missing the vehicle. - Bernama
