KOTA KINABALU: Upko is urging the Federal Government to officially recognise and implement the Constitutional right to Sabah’s 40% federal revenue return taken from the state, says the party president Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin.
Responding to the Prime Minister’s statement in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 22), Mojuntin said that Upko appreciated the various forms of federal assistance extended to Sabah, including via budget allocations, special grants and development loans.
He also said that federal assistance should not be equated or combined as part of the state’s rightful revenue, which includes the 40% revenue derived from the state to be returned as stated in Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“What we want from the Federal Government is not just temporary payments or conditional promises, but official recognition of Sabah’s rights as provided in the Constitution,” he added.
He said that the 40% claim is a constitutional right.
Earlier Wednesday (Oct 10), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the Madani government had increased Sabah’s allocation RM1.7bil for 2025 and 202, and the amount exceeds the total revenue in 2022, 2023 and 2024, which averaged around RM10bil a year.
