Spectacular pyrotechnics at Sunway Lagoon brought together local families, neighboring Asean tourists and international visitors.

KUALA LUMPUR: Thousands of visitors gathered on Oct 20 as Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World Of Tambun in Ipoh illuminated the night skies with dazzling three-minute long fireworks, marking the highlight of The Grand Deepavali Celebration.

It was one of the biggest Deepavali festivals in Malaysia, celebrated in a vibrant week-long festival from Oct 15 to 22 commemorating Malaysia’s diverse cultural spirit and the triumph of light over darkness.

This year’s celebration brought together local families, tourists from neighboring Asean countries, as well as international visitors, to create a vibrant cultural melting pot.

The festive atmosphere offered guests an unforgettable evening filled with music, dance and cultural showcases, presenting a joyous space where everyone could celebrate the Festival of Lights together.

The celebration culminated in a breathtaking musical fireworks display, lighting up the skies above both the Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World Of Tambun, symbolising the essence of Deepavali: joy, unity and new beginnings.

Families and friends also enjoyed meet-and-greet sessions with beloved mascots Captain Quack and Family, colourful kolam displays and festive photo zones, all designed to immerse guests in the beauty and warmth of the festival.

Celebrating unity through culture

“Deepavali is a celebration of light, culture and togetherness and at Sunway Theme Parks, we’re proud to honour that spirit,” said Sunway Theme Parks chief executive officer Prof Calvin Ho.

“Through events like this, we aim to create inclusive spaces where people from all walks of life can come together to experience the richness of Malaysia’s multicultural heritage.”

The Grand Deepavali Celebration builds on Sunway Theme Parks’ long-standing commitment to cultural inclusivity, following other major festive events such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Christmas, making Sunway Theme Parks a true reflection of Malaysia’s unity in diversity.

As Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, large-scale cultural celebrations like The Grand Deepavali Celebration play a crucial role in enhancing the country’s appeal as a must-visit destination.

By showcasing the beauty of Malaysia’s living heritage through music, art and community festivities, Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World Of Tambun are contributing to promote Malaysia’s multicultural identity on the global stage, attract international tourists and repeat visitors, drive economic benefits to surrounding communities and tourism partners and position cultural events as key tourism experiences for families and travellers.

The Grand Deepavali Celebration continues until Oct 22, with ongoing performances, festive food and family-friendly activities across both Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World Of Tambun.
