22-year-old arrested after reckless driving causes multi-vehicle pileup on NKVE

PETALING JAYA: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly driving recklessly and causing a five-vehicle accident along the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) here last Saturday (Oct 18).

A video of the accident has since gone viral on social media.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the incident occurred at about 5.17pm when the suspect lost control of his vehicle and veered to the right side of the road.

"A lorry coming from behind was unable to avoid the collision and crashed into several other vehicles that were slowing down at the scene,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 21).

The accident involved two lorries and three cars, he added.

"Following the incident, we detained the driver. Checks revealed that the suspect had no prior criminal record,” ACP Shamsudin said.

The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

He also reminded motorists to always obey traffic laws to prevent untoward incidents.

"We will not compromise in taking action against any individual who drives dangerously. Stern action will be taken against those who violate the law,” he warned.
