MyKad misuse victims to get reimbursement for Sara cash aid, says Home Ministry

PETALING JAYA: Those that had their MyKad misused to claim the Sara cash assistance will be reimbursed, the Home Ministry says.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, in a statement on Sunday (Oct 19), said that the government will not allow eligible recipients to be affected via technical issues or stolen identities.

"If there had been a MyKad misuse, the balance of the Sara aid will be reimbursed to the recipients after the misuse had been confirmed by an investigation.

"For this matter, a police report has to be made by the MyKad holder, and the Finance Ministry, together with the National Registration Department (NRD), will conduct a full investigation to identify the cause of the misuse. The rights of the user will be ensured," he said.

He added that the technical issues regarding the authentication and security of the MyKads are being addressed to ensure the next round of targeted subsidies will be delivered without problems.

"Among the measures being implemented are regular updates of MyKad data matching, checks to prevent misuse of redemptions, as well as enhanced digital infrastructure security at the NRD.

"The government is committed to ensuring that the implementation of targeted subsidies is carried out transparently, securely, and fairly," he said.
