Machete-wielding drug addict nabbed for chasing boy, 11, in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A drug addict has been arrested for allegedly chasing a boy while bearing a machete in Tawau.

The 48-year-old suspect was said to have chased after his 11-year-old neighbour while brandishing a parang at Felda Umas, Kalabakan in Tawau, at around 6am on Thursday (Oct 16).

The boy ran home in fear and told his mother about the machete-wielding man.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the boy’s mother then lodged a police report and a team was sent to arrest the suspect.

“The suspect, a labourer, was apprehended at his house at around 5.30pm the same day,” he said in a statement, adding that a machete was also seized.

He said the suspect tested positive for syabu and had three previous drug-related offences.

ACP Jasmin said the suspect has been remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

He advised the public to refrain from taking action into their own hands and to act aggressively as it could threaten public safety.
