Johor Immigration raids massage centres, detains 15 foreign nationals

PONTIAN: Johor Immigration detains 15 foreigners from four countries during a series of raids at three massage and reflexology centres here.

Its director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus, said the suspects, aged 21 to 56, were arrested during a series of raids conducted around midnight on Thursday (Oct 16).

“Checks at the three premises found foreign women working without valid documents and misusing their social visit passes for suspicious activities.

“Two local men, believed to be caretakers and managers of the premises, were also detained for allegedly harbouring undocumented workers,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Mohd Rusdi said those detained comprised two men from Myanmar, one woman from Indonesia, three women from Laos, three women from Myanmar and six women from Thailand.

“They were arrested for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, including entering and staying in the country without valid permits under Section 6(1)(c), overstaying under Section 15(1)(c), and violating pass conditions under Regulation 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

“The two locals were also detained under Section 56(1)(d) of the Act for harbouring foreigners,” he said, adding that all detainees have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for investigation and further action.
