Man charged with robbing seven women in Seremban

SEREMBAN: A 35-year-old man claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to seven charges of robbing his victims of jewellery over a period of 17 months.

Mohamad Halikhwan Halbahri pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam on Wednesday (Oct 15).

He was charged separately with robbing seven women aged 24 to 67 of their gold bracelets and neck chains.

The alleged offences were committed here on May 23 last year and Jan 15, May 6 and 16, June 22, July 3 and Aug 26 this year.

The accused was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which provides a jail term of up to 14 years and a fine or whipping.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurnadiahani Mohd Ideris then offered the accused bail of RM10,000 for each charge pending next mention.

She also asked the court to order the accused to report to the nearest police station once every month until the case is disposed of, to stay away from the alleged victims and prosecution witnesses.

Mohamad Halikhwan, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lower bail as his only income was from helping his mother run a lemang stall.

Judge Mohamad Kamil then set bail at RM45,000 for all charges. He also allowed the other applications by the prosecution.

Prior to this, Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the suspect was detained in an operation in Taman Tuanku Ja'afar on Sept 25.

The suspect, who was on a motorcycle with fake registration plates, had behaved aggressively and tried to run into a cop in his attempt to escape, but was eventually apprehended.
