Immigration nabs 11 foreigners linked to online gambling ring in KL

PETALING JAYA: A two-week surveillance operation led to a raid that saw the arrest of 11 foreign suspects believed to be linked to an online gambling syndicate.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said that the operation was conducted along Jalan P. Ramlee in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 9.

A total of 11 Chinese nationals, aged between 20 and 40, were arrested, he added.

Of those arrested, two were found to have entered the country using social visit passes while five had overstayed. Four of those arrested were found without any valid travel documents.

"Their modus operandi included using luxury residences as bases for online gambling activities. They targeted players overseas and used Telegram and WhatsApp for promotional and communication purposes.

"All suspects were brought to the Immigration Department headquarters for further action," he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 12).
