Sabah polls: Opt for stability, don’t be emotional, Hajiji tells youth

KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans, especially the youth, who make up half of the 1.72 million voters, should opt for stability and not make emotional decisions in deciding their support in the coming election, says caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“We cannot progress based on emotions alone. We often compare why we lag behind in various sectors—it’s because we keep changing governments,” said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman.

“Look at the Pan Borneo Highway project. When a new government took over, they cancelled the PDP (Project Delivery Partner), and we lost four years,” he said at the Tamu Suara 360 event here on Saturday (Oct 11).

He said that it was important for the youth to give the GRS government a chance to secure a fresh mandate and continue the development agenda outlined in the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap to develop and strengthen the state’s economy.

“We also want to establish political stability in Sabah, and that’s why I say we need to work with the Federal Government and continue the GRS–Pakatan Harapan (PH) cooperation in this election,” Hajiji said.

He urged Sabah’s youth not to waste the opportunity that comes only once every five years to shape a better future for the state under his leadership.

“So make the best choice in the state election, which will be held soon, to ensure continuity in development, political stability, and the well-being of the people.

“This election is a golden opportunity to choose a strong government—most importantly, one dominated by local parties,” he said.

Hajiji said that Sabah needs to have political stability to implement government programmes, develop the economy, and plan good initiatives for youth.

“Sabah cannot be left behind in any area of progress, including AI, TVET, and more.

“But most importantly, we must be united, have stability, and maintain cooperation between the state and federal governments. God willing, Sabah will prosper and thrive,” he added.
