Man held over death of 3-year-old girl in Santubong


KUCHING: A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a three-year-old girl in Kampung Rampangi, Santubong, near here on Tuesday (Oct 7).

Kuching OCPD Asst Comm Alexson Naga Chabu said a report on the incident was lodged on Wednesday (Oct 8) by a 52-year-old local man.

The complainant said a friend informed him of his daughter’s death on Tuesday, he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 9), adding that initial investigations suggest the victim may have been abused to death.

ACP Alexson said that acting on the information, police arrested the suspect in Kampung Krian, Jalan Padawan, at 11am on Thursday.

He said the suspect, who has six prior drug-related records, also tested positive for drugs.

ACP Alexson said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and reminded the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could interfere with the investigation.

He also urged those with information regarding the incident to contact the Kuching IPD at 082-24444 or senior criminal investigation officer ASP Chris Olsen Ramlee at 013-8607572 to assist in the investigation.- Bernama
