KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Kedah showed improvement on Monday (Oct 6) morning, with a decrease in the number of evacuees housed at temporary relief centres, while in Perak, 26 people have yet to be allowed to return home.
In Kedah, a total of 164 people from 51 families remained at two relief centres as of 8am, compared with 169 people from 52 families on Sunday (Oct 5) night.
Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said 109 people from 33 families were placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Langgar, involving residents from Mukim Langgar and Mukim Limbong.
"The Pokok Sena Multipurpose Hall relief centre, meanwhile, is housing 55 people from 18 families from Mukim Gajah Mati and Mukim Lesong,” he said in a statement on Monday.
He said the water level of Sungai Kedah at Jambatan Lebuhraya, Kota Setar, recorded a reading of 1.62 metres, compared with the alert level of 1.5 metres.
Meanwhile, in Perak, a total of 26 people from seven families are still being housed at the relief centre at SK Matang in the Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) district.
"All the evacuees have been at the centre since Oct 3, following the floods that hit Kampung Matang Jambu and Kampung Telok Kertang,” according to a statement issued by the Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast rain in the afternoon across most districts in Perak today, while the Kinta district is expected to experience rain from morning until evening. - Bernama
