BALIK PULAU: A former accounting officer claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to four charges of criminal breach of trust involving RM1.9mil.

Chuan Chin Ghee, 29, who is now a mooncake trader, is accused of making 231 transfers amounting to RM1,919,899.55 from Wings Freight Express Sdn Bhd’s bank account to her personal account between Nov 6, 2020 and May 22, 2023.

She pleaded not guilty to all four charges read before Judge Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin here yesterday.

The first charge involved 12 transfers between Nov 6 and Dec 8, 2020, totalling RM129,000.

The second covered 114 transfers between Jan 1 and Dec 18, 2021, amounting to RM929,451.80.

The third involved 73 transfers from Jan 21 to Dec 29, 2022, totalling RM570,947.75.

The fourth included 32 transfers between Jan 10 and May 22, 2023, totalling RM290,500.

The charges were framed under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between one and 14 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

During proceedings, deputy public prosecutor Lim Jin Hong proposed bail of RM30,000 for each charge, with additional conditions requiring the accused to surrender her passport to the court, report to the police station monthly and refrain from harassing the victim and prosecution witnesses.

However, defence counsel M. Puveneswaran requested bail of RM10,000 for each charge, arguing that bail should not be punitive.

Puveneswaran also informed the court that his client had given birth to her first child two months ago.

The court granted bail of RM40,000 in total, with one surety for all charges, along with the additional conditions sought by the prosecution.

The case has been fixed for mention on Nov 13, pending submission of documents.
