KOTA KINABALU: Two Chinese tourists have been arrested for sending a false bomb alert by email to an airline company after not being able to change their flight seats, police revealed.
It is learnt that the man, 29, and woman, 28, had contacted their travel agent to change their seats but received no response.
Furious, they sent an email to the airline’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, claiming there was a bomb on a Tawau-Kuala Lumpur flight.
The flight was delayed for security check.
Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said a report was lodged by the airline on Monday.
The couple were detained and brought in for questioning. The Tawau Magistrate’s Court issued a four-day remand order.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
