KUALA LUMPUR: It was a day to remember for Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) graduates.

Apart from the joy of convocation day, many of them also reflected on how they navigated the challenges that had come their way.

Lee Xin Hong, who earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, recalled how the movement control order imposed during the pandemic had pushed the students to attend online classes.

“It was difficult to work on assignments, as our communication was limited to the online space.

“When physical classes resumed, working together was another challenge, as we had spent so much time apart,” said the 24-year-old when met after the graduation ceremony here yesterday.

However, Lee attributed her perseverance to the friendships formed while in TAR UMT.

“We would gather in a study group the night before exams. Sometimes, up to 20 of us would be together until late in the night. It’s moments like these that make the whole journey special,” she said.

Syed Saiful Nizam Syed Mubarat, 44, said the convocation was memorable, as his wife and three children were there to witness him receiving his Master’s in Construction Contract Management.

“Balancing work, family and studies was a challenge, but with their support, I managed to complete my studies,” said Syed Saiful Nizam, who is with the Public Works Department.

A graduate, who wanted to be known only as Lalitha, described her journey as one of perseverance and self-belief.

Lalitha, who completed her Master’s in English studies, admitted that there were moments she considered quitting her studies.

“I had to travel from Seremban and self-fund my studies. I did think of giving up, but I pushed through it, and here I am today,” said Lalitha, who came with her mother, husband and 12-year-old daughter.

The September convocation ceremony will feature 62 postgraduate students, 1,517 degree holders and 2,483 diploma graduates.

The convocation, which began yesterday, will continue today and on Sept 27 and Sept 28. A total of 8,186 students have graduated from TAR UMT campuses nationwide as of September this year.
