BALIK PULAU: A Penang stall owner is making headlines by offering an incredible deal: an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast for just 90sen.

Ibrahim Abdul Rahim, 43, runs a food stall in Jalan Balik Pulau.

On one or two days each week, he serves up an unlimited buffet of local favourites like nasi lemak, fried mee hoon, roti canai and kuih, along with coffee and tea.

Ibrahim explained that the affair isn’t a charity event but a way of showing his gratitude to the loyal customers who have supported his business for the past four years.

“It’s simply my way of thanking my patrons,” he said, adding that he makes no profit on these special days. “But of course, I hope to create a buzz to get more customers on other days.”

The special promotion is budget-dependent.

“I choose any one day of the week, or even two days, depending on how much I made,” Ibrahim said.

The promotion is strictly for dine-in only. And a fee will be imposed for any food wastage.

“I don’t want people taking more than they can eat and then leaving it behind,” he said.

Ibrahim said some customers try to pay him more than the 90sen charge or make a donation to him, but he politely declines.

“Those who come to know of this weekly offer will share it with their friends.

“They then become my regular customers. They understand my intention is to give back to the community,” he said in an interview.

Ibrahim said he hopes to keep the promotion going as long as possible.

“I cannot just wait for customers to come; I have to be creative. This way, I get to promote my shop while giving back,” said Ibrahim, who runs the eatery with his wife.

The coffee shop serves breakfast from 7.30am until the food runs out.

Retired nurse Rosnani Che Daud, 62, who was seen enjoying her meal with three other friends, said she had nasi lemak and roti canai as well as teh tarik – all for 90sen.

“We used to visit this place regularly for the roti canai.

“Then we heard about the 90sen offer, and we came back to check it out.

“The food is good, and it is indeed thoughtful of the operator to do this weekly, as it will help the less privileged.

“I believe many come here and eat to their hearts’ content,” she said.

School bus marshal Nur Nabilah Abdullah, 23, heard about the promotion on social media.

“It is my first time here, as I work in Batu Ferringhi. So my friends and I decided to drive over.

“I did not expect the food to be tasty, as it was inexpensive, but I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and taste,” she said.
