ABOUT 22,150 Indian residents in Selangor will receive vouchers worth a total of RM4.43mil for Deepavali, Makkal Osai reported.

State exco member V. Papparaidu said the state government will continue the annual scheme to help ease the burden of the B40 Indian community.

The vouchers worth RM220 each will be distributed in every state constituency and can be used to purchase food and materials necessary for the festival.

Only those earning less than RM3,000 a month and not receiving any other aid will be eligible to receive the vouchers.

> A 15-day-old infant in India is lucky to be alive after his mother accidentally left him in the refrigerator, Makkal Osai also reported.

The 30-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh had apparently been mentally ill after delivery but allowed to return home.

Family members heard the baby crying and began frantically looking for him.

They found him in the fridge, where the mother had absentmindedly left him, and rushed him to a nearby clinic.
