Thunderstorm warning issued for seven states, KL and Putrajaya


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected across seven states as well as KL and Putrajaya, with warnings in effect until 3pm on Friday (Sept 12), said the Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a post on its social media pages.

In Kedah, areas including Langkawi, Yan, Kuala Muda, Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu are on alert for severe weather.

Pulau Pinang is also expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Perak, districts such as Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, and Hilir Perak are forecasted to be affected.

In Selangor, areas including Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, and Sepang are on alert, as well as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

In Negeri Sembilan, Port Dickson and Rembau are expected to experience severe weather.

The warning extends to Melaka, specifically Alor Gajah.

In Sarawak, regions such as Sri Aman, Sarikei (Julau), Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Kapit (Song), and Bintulu (Tatau) are included in the warning.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
