ALOR SETAR: PAS Youth members should comprise at least one-third of the candidates fielded by the party in the upcoming Sabah state election, says the wing's chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden.

He said this would show the party has confidence in its young leaders and is willing to prepare them to shoulder more responsibility for the state's future.

"This is not merely about making up the numbers but about building a new political culture, one that is clean, people-centric and solution-driven," he said in his keynote speech at the 66th Youth Wing Muktamar at the Kedah PAS Complex here on Friday (Sept 12).

The Alor Setar MP said Sabah should not be treated as a political fringe but as a vital frontier of national transformation.

He said the presence of young PAS candidates in the state will be a political training ground and a step toward ensuring Sabahans see the party as a genuine partner, defender and voice of the people.

“If we succeed in winning the hearts of Sabahans, we will not just secure electoral gains but open a new chapter in Malaysian politics,” he said, adding that PAS’ struggle was for the people of both Borneo and the peninsula.

The 17th Sabah State Election must be held by Dec 7.

The state assembly's term ends on Nov 11.

PAS currently has one nominated representative in the assembly.
