MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for several states until 9pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories, with warnings in effect until 9pm on Thursday (Sept 11).

In Kedah, areas including Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik, and Baling are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds.

Similarly, In Perak, Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, and Hilir Perak are forecast to be affected by severe weather.

In Kelantan, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang are on alert for adverse conditions.

In Terengganu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Kemaman are expected to see thunderstorms and heavy rain, while in Pahang, areas including Jerantut, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan, and Rompin are under the warning.

In Selangor, the warning covers Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Kuala Langat, and Sepang.

The Federal Territory of Putrajaya is also included in the alert.

Similarly, in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, residents are advised to be vigilant as adverse conditions are expected.

In Johor, all districts are expected to face thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Meanwhile, in Sarawak, the warning covers Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song, Kapit, and Bukit Mabong), Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Telang Usan), and Limbang.

In Sabah, interior districts including Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Keningau, and Tambunan, along with the West Coast, Sandakan (Kinabatangan and Sandakan), and Kudat are forecast to experience adverse weather.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
