Simpang Pulai cop shooting: Nine remanded for a week, says Ipoh OCPD


IPOH: Nine individuals have been remanded for a week to assist in the investigation into the discovery of a woman's body in the vehicle of a suspect believed to have shot and stabbed a police officer in Simpang Pulai on Sunday (Sept 7).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said that the nine individuals consist of eight men and one woman.

"The remand order, which runs from today until Sept 14, was issued by Magistrate Anis Hanini Abdullah, while efforts to hunt down the main suspect are ongoing," he said when contacted Monday (Sept 8).

Earlier, a 26-year-old police officer from Simpang Pulai police station was treated at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here after being shot in the abdomen and stabbed during a struggle with a suspect linked to a murder case at an oil palm plantation near a factory in Simpang Pulai on Sunday morning.

In the 1.15am incident, further inspection of the suspect's car revealed a woman's body in the back seat of the vehicle.

The case is being investigated under Section 302/307 of the Penal Code and Section 3 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalties) 1971. - Bernama
