SHAH ALAM: Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has described the scuffle that broke out during the party’s general assembly as embarrassing.
When winding up debates, Muhyiddin stressed that such episodes must not be repeated.
"This issue is not about me being president, but what matters is how we can always preserve our party’s good name," he said when winding up debates at the Bersatu annual general assembly here on Sunday (Sept 7).
As the founder of the party, he said he was proud of Bersatu’s achievements but episodes like this were disappointing.
"Of course, I am affected by it. It is normal. I am called Abah, and when I look at things, it's as if my children were the ones that made mistakes," he said.
Muhyiddin then called on party members to close ranks and continue strengthening the party.
"The message we want to send to the public is that they do not have to worry about Bersatu. What has happened has already passed and will not happen anymore," he said, urging the delegates to pledge this.
On Saturday (Sept 6), a scuffle broke out as Muhyiddin was addressing allegations to oust him, with a delegate then shouting "it’s not true Tan Sri".
Some delegates began standing on chairs and shouting while others attempted to block the press from getting footage of the incident.
Prior to the AGM, there was talk of statutory declarations from division leaders calling for Muhyiddin to step down as the president.
