Nationwide anti-vice operation nets over 300 arrests for illegal gambling


PETALING JAYA: A large-scale anti-vice operation nationwide led to the arrest of over 300 individuals.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar stated on Tuesday (Sep 2) that the raids were conducted on Aug 30 and 31, targeting locations suspected of illegal gambling activities.

“A total of 395 premises were inspected, with 272 identified as being used for unlicensed gambling. “Among them, 245 were linked to unlicensed lottery operations, 20 were involved in online gambling, five were unlicensed family entertainment outlets, and two were operating as gambling call centres.

“The raids resulted in the arrest of 328 suspects, comprising 286 men and 42 women, including premise owners, workers, caretakers, and players,” he said.

Notably, 70 of those arrested were foreigners.

The police have emphasised that similar operations would be conducted more frequently to combat unlicensed gambling activities nationwide.
