Pearly-Thinaah's determination inspired millions of Malaysians, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: National shuttlers Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah showed determination and grit as they fell at the final hurdle of winning the World Championships in Paris, says Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president saluted the women’s doubles duo, who threw everything at world No. 1 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning in Sunday’s final, refusing to bow easily to the mighty Chinese pair but eventually went down 14-21, 22-20, 17-21 in 83 minutes at the Adidas Arena in Paris.

"Though the gold narrowly slipped away, your journey has inspired millions and lifted Malaysian badminton to new heights.

"Reaching the final itself is a historic milestone for women’s doubles, and we are so proud of you both," he said on Facebook on Sunday (Aug 31).

Dr Wee urged Pearly and Thinaah to hold their heads up high as this was just the beginning of greater victories ahead.
