PETALING JAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh hailed women's doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah for their historic silver medal win in the World Championships.

Pearly-Thinaah fought their hearts out before going down 14-21, 22-20, 1 7-21 to China's world No. 1 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning in a thrilling 83-minute final at the Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle in Paris on Sunday (Aug 31).

Despite missing out on the title, it was still a historic achievement for the world No. 2 duo after they became the first Malaysian women's doubles pair to capture a medal in the world meet.

Hannah praised Pearly-Thinaah for their feat in the City of Lights.

"Pearly and Thinaah made history by becoming the country's first World Championships women's doubles silver medallists!" said Hannah via social media.

"Silver in medal but you remain our golden treasure."
