Jets take to the skies above Melaka

MELAKA: The skies above the historic city thundered as Sukhoi Su-30MKM fighter jets from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) staged a rehearsal flypast, giving locals a dramatic preview of the upcoming state-level National Day celebration.

The combat aircraft flying in formation over Melaka drew crowds of surprised onlookers who rushed outdoors to witness the rare display.

State health, human resources and unity committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said the airshow was a highlight that set this year’s celebration apart.

“This was made possible by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who wanted to raise the benchmark of our state-level National Day celebration.

“His close ties with the federal leadership has turned the dream of Melakans into reality,” he said yesterday.

Ngwe added that the Fire and Rescue Department would also join the aerial showcase tomorrow, reflecting the state’s determination to stage festivities on par with those in Putrajaya.

“We anticipate a celebration of historic proportions this year,” he said.
