KUALA LUMPUR: A series of raids has dealt a huge blow to a drug distribution ring here that packaged its illicit substances in vape liquids.
The raids were conducted on Aug 22, leading to the arrest of eight locals and a Thai woman aged between 24 and 34 years.
At a press conference here yesterday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the drugs seized were packaged inside liquid vape cartridges.
The first raid was conducted at a residence in Jalan Kuchai Jaya, leading to the arrest of a man and a woman.
Checks at the scene led to the discovery of several boxes of suspected MDMA-laced vape liquid.
Follow-up raids were carried out leading to the arrest of nine suspects.
“It is not easy to identify if the vapes are laced with drugs or not. We have seen that the distribution has covered all segments of the community including schoolchildren.
“The group’s modus operandi involved the use of condominiums to store and process the drugs. Runners will be used to distribute the drugs around the Klang Valley.
“It is believed that the syndicate has been active since the end of 2024.”
In total, the seized drugs and vapes were estimated to be valued at RM1.49mil.
He added that multiple sports cars were also seized.
“We will move very aggressively to combat the spread of drugs. We will deploy all available police assets in this area.”
In an unrelated matter, Comm Fadil confirmed a large-scale operation in Bangsar South on Wednesday.
While he did not share more details, he said it was an anti-scam operation and that arrests were made.
It is believed that hundreds were detained by the police during a large-scale sweep.
“I can confirm the incident, and a press conference on it will be held in the near future,” he said, adding that further questions on the matter will be answered then.
