JOHOR BARU: The Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) is keeping a close watch on the displays of the Jalur Gemilang and state flags to ensure they are flown properly and respectfully.
However, mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad said the council had not come across or received any complaints about the incorrect display of the flags so far.
“We are monitoring the city, but we have not come across such cases.
“If we do receive such a case, prompt and appropriate action will be taken after a thorough investigation,” he said at a press conference after the MBJB full council meeting here.
Earlier in his speech, Mohd Haffiz said the council would be monitoring the city, especially public buildings, commercial areas and residential areas, to ensure the flags are displayed in accordance with the established guidelines.
“The installation of flags that are imperfect, worn out, torn or upside down can tarnish the nation’s image and dignity.
“They are not only a symbol of the struggle for independence but also a sign of unity and patriotism.
“Therefore, I would like to remind all parties, - government agencies, the private sector, business premises or individuals - to fly the Jalur Gemilang and the Johor state flag correctly, neatly and with full respect,” he said.
