Machang MP ordered to retract statement made in Dewan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR: Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal was ordered to retract his statement when he questioned the status of investigation of corruption cases involving Pakatan Harapan MPs during a debate in the Dewan Rakyat.

“Why are the complainants investigated?. The people will not believe any reforms laws,” he said when debating the Government Procurement Bill in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Aug 27).

“What happened to Batu Gajah’s MACC case or the tunnel case (Lim Guan Eng),” he asked.

“These are examples that PH is not clean,” he said, adding that the Opposition will not support the Bill.

RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) then cited the Standing Orders saying that Lim’s case was still in court while the MACC has said there were no grounds for charging in Sivakumar’s case.

He said Wan Ahmad Fayshal had crossed the limits by doing so.

He then said if the Opposition did not want government MPs to respond, they should refrain from making such comments.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor said then ordered Wan Ahmad Fayhsal to retract the statement, and the MP complied.

Ramli then ruled that according to the House’s rules, court cases cannot be raised.

The Government Procurement Bill was met with much resistance by the Opposition bloc.
