KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment and fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to recording and possessing hundreds of obscene images and videos on his mobile phone.

Magistrate Amira Abd Aziz handed down the sentence to P Naagiran, 28, ordering him to serve the prison term from Tuesday (Aug 26).

She added that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional 12 months’ imprisonment.

Naagiran was accused of installing a hidden camera in a toilet with the intent to insult the modesty of a woman at an apartment unit on Jalan San Peng here at 9.45pm on April 24, 2022.

He was also accused of possessing 108 obscene videos and 374 obscene images on his phone

Deputy public prosecutor Ravindejit Kaur urged the court to impose a commensurate sentence, citing the seriousness of the offence in violating the victim’s privacy and compromising public safety.

Defence counsel S. Balasubrameniam requested a lenient sentence, saying that his client is responsible for caring for his elderly mother.- Bernama
