Thunderstorm warning issued for seven states

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) have issued a thunderstorm warning for seven states, with warnings in effect until 3pm on Sunday  (Aug 17).

In Kedah, areas including Kulim and Bandar Baharu are on alert for severe weather.

Pulau Pinang is also expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Perak, districts such as Kerian and Larut, Matang Dan Selama are forecasted to be affected.

In Selangor, areas including Kuala Selangor, Klang, and Petaling are under the warning.

In Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Pilah, Jempol, and Tampin are on alert.

In Johor, regions such as Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Baru are expected to face severe weather.

In Sabah, Tawau including Tawau, Kunak, and Semporna are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
