Man who went missing last week found dead near car in Kapit ravine

SIBU: A man reported missing about a week ago has been found dead near a car in a ravine beside the road to the Baleh hydroelectric dam in Kapit, some 300km from here.

Kapit OCPD Deputy Supt Rohana Nanu confirmed the victim to be 54-year-old Pika Rangga, whose body was discovered about 30m from the car, which is believed to have plunged into the ravine.

"The victim’s body has been taken to Hospital Kapit for further action. His identity has been confirmed by family members,” he said on Saturday (Aug 16) night.

Sibu Fire and Rescue Department chief Andy Alie said a call about the discovery of the body was received at 3.06pm on Saturday.

A team from the Kapit fire station, about 60km away, arrived at the scene at 4.08pm, he added.

"Inspection of the scene found the car in a ravine about 100m deep," he said.

Andy said firefighters used a scoop stretcher to retrieve the victim’s body, which was then handed over to the police for further action. – Bernama
