Kluang cops nab man for trespassing on banana farm, attempting to steal six bunches


KLUANG: A local man was arrested for trespassing and attempting to steal six bunches of bananas from a banana farm at Kampung Sungai Besoi, Layang-Layang near here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrain Mohd Noh said the banana theft happened on Thursday (Aug 14) at 11.20pm.

He said a team of policemen from the Layang-Layang police station was deployed to the scene following information on the theft and arrived there at 11.50am.

“The 36-year-old suspect was caught red-handed at the banana farm," ACP Bahrain said in a statement.

He said police also seized a white compact car, a bunch of keys and six bunches of bananas.

ACP Bahrain added that the initial investigations found that the suspect has no criminal record and was tested positive for methamphetamine.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code which deals with criminal trespass.

It specifies that whoever enters or remains on another’s person’s property with the intent to commit an offence, or to intimidate, insult, or annoy any person on that property, is guilty of criminal trespass.

The penalty for criminal trespass under Section 447 is a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both.
