Cops wrap up probe into upside-down flag at PD school, IP to be submitted to prosecution this evening

PORT DICKSON: An investigation paper related to an incident where the Jalur Gemilang was hung upside down at a school here has been submitted to the state prosecution department.

Deputy district OCPD DSP Mohd Ruslan Mat Kib said the police have been told to have another session to record the statement of one of the witnesses.

"Apart from that, we have also been instructed to record the statement of another individual," he said in a statement Monday (Aug 11).

Mohd Ruslan said the police had recorded the statement of four individuals including the person who put up the national flag and teachers before submitting its findings to the state authorities.

He said the completed investigation paper should be referred to the state prosecution department by Monday evening.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, Section 5 of the Emblems and Names Act 1963, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.

Prior to this, Lukut assemblyman Choo Ken Hwa had claimed that the flag was put up by a general worker who is a slow learner.

He said that he met with the board of governors and the school headmaster and was told that the worker was a special needs person as he was a person with intellectual disability.

Choo said the school had immediately brought down the flag upon realising the mistake.
