JOHOR BARU: Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has defended the state government's performance, saying he personally monitors the administration and ensures it carries out its responsibilities.
He slammed those claiming that the state government had failed to take care of Johor.
"Don't say nonsense like the people have not been treated well or that the state government did not do its job.
"I monitor my government. I make sure they do their jobs.
"You can ask the Mentri Besar or the state secretary. Sometimes, even at 3am, I'll call and ask why something has not been done," he said during an engagement session with the people in Muar on Saturday (June 20).
He also called on the Federal government to play a bigger role in supporting Johor's development and safeguarding the welfare of its people.
"Johor still has many weaknesses that must be addressed but this is not just the responsibility of the state government – it is also mine and yours (Johoreans).
"Don't just make empty promises during election campaigns. They must also fulfil their responsibilities," he said.
The Johor Regent also renewed his call for the Federal government to return 25% of the tax revenue generated by the state.
"Let us get the 25% back so that we can carry out our duties to take care of the people while also reducing the burden on the Federal government.
"It is a win-win situation for everyone. We are not trying to make enemies with anyone or give whoever is administering the country a difficult time," he said.
