SIBU: Sarawak police are offering a 50% discount on compoundable traffic summonses in conjunction with the 68th National Day celebration.
The summonses can be paid at police stations statewide from August 26 to 28, according to state DCP Saifullizan Ishak in a statement on Friday (August 8).
He said the move is to ease the public’s financial burden and encourage settlement of outstanding police summonses.
“This effort is not just about reducing summonses. It reflects our concern for the people and our desire to foster closer ties between the police and the community, in the spirit of unity and well-being,” he added.
The discount applies to compoundable traffic offences under the Road Transport (Compounding of Offences) Rules 2003.
However, the offer excludes 10 categories of offences: road accidents; traffic offences under trial; heavy vehicle-related offences; dangerous overtaking; use of the emergency lane; non-compoundable offences; disobeying traffic light signals; overtaking on double lines; illegal exhaust modifications; and summonses under Safe Ops status.
