Stabbed policeman in stable condition now, says KL acting police chief

KUALA LUMPUR: The police corporal who was stabbed while on patrol near Pudu market last month is currently in stable condition.

Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the victim is expected to be discharged within a week, barring any complications.

“As of now, he remains under close observation due to concerns over possible internal bleeding or infections.

"However, we expect a full recovery soon,” he told reporters on Monday (Aug 4).

The stab wound, which measured about 3cm wide and 7cm deep, fortunately did not hit any vital organs but only affected the small intestine.

He also confirmed that the police officer had been following proper standard operating procedures (SOP) during the incident.

“There is no issue with SOP compliance. The officer was conducting his crime prevention patrol following protocol, including using the 'buddy system'.

"We do hope that more officers will be equipped with body-worn cameras (BWC) in the future, as not all personnel currently have access to this equipment,” he added.

He also revealed that the investigation paper has been completed and will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) soon.

On July 31, the police corporal was stabbed in the abdomen by a man near Pudu Market around 12pm while conducting a crime prevention patrol in the area.
