Sarawak’s new administrative complex officially unveiled

KUCHING: Sarawak's White House, a new administrative complex in Petra Jaya, was unveiled at a grand opening ceremony on Monday (Aug 4).

Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar announced the building's official name as Kompleks Satria Pertiwi during the ceremony, which coincided with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg's 75th birthday.

Also present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, state Cabinet ministers and assemblymen.

The complex's main three-storey building had been nicknamed Sarawak's White House because of its resemblance to the official residence and workplace of the United States president.

With four main blocks, Kompleks Satria Pertiwi would house the Sarawak Premier's office, his official residence and staff quarters.

The main building features a Cabinet meeting room and a conference room, as well as a multipurpose hall and a surau located in an adjoining block.

Built on a 7.7-hectare site, the complex also features a classical formal garden within its grounds.
