IPOH: Three men were killed and three others injured in a collision at KM328.9 of the North-South Expressway near Tapah.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the accident occurred at 11.19am on Tuesday (July 22) on the southbound lane involving a car and a sports utility vehicle (SUV).
He said personnel from the Tapah station were dispatched to the scene and arrived at 11.40am.
“The 31-year-old male driver of the car sustained injuries, while three senior citizens in the SUV died, and two other men in the same vehicle were also injured," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 22).
Tapah OCPD Supt Johari Yahya said all five men in the SUV were travelling from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur.
He stated that the deceased were identified as Teh Kim Lai, 76; Cong Ong, 77; and Tan Ah Tak, 70. All hailed from Selangor.
The 71-year-old SUV driver from Johor sustained minor injuries, while another passenger, a 68-year-old Singaporean, suffered serious injuries.
Supt Johari added that the accident occurred when the car crashed into the back of the SUV, which was in the right lane of the expressway.
“The SUV skidded and rolled over.
“The three died at the scene,” he said.
The injured were handed over to the medical team on-site, while the bodies of the deceased were sent to Hospital Tapah.
