Thunderstorms to hit six states and Labuan, warns MetMalaysia


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected across six states and Labuan, warns the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

This warning will be in effect until 10am on Thursday (July 10), MeMalaysia said in a post on its social media pages.

In Kedah, Bandar Baharu is on alert for severe weather.

Pulau Pinang is also expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Perak, the districts of Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, and Bagan Datuk are forecasted to be affected.

In Johor, areas including Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, and Pontian are under the warning.

In Sarawak, regions such as Mukah (Mukah), Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang are expected to face severe weather.

In Sabah, the Interior regions including Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau, and Tambunan, as well as the West Coast areas of Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, and Kota Belud, and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Kudat) are on alert.

Labuan is also included in the thunderstorm warning.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
