MELAKA: Reviving a court case that ended in a discharge and acquittal is irresponsible and politically motivated, says Muhammad Muhaimin Lau Abdullah. The Parti Bersama Malaysia’s Ayer Keroh candidate responded after DAP’s Khoo Poay Tiong called on him to explain the case to voters.
Muhammad Muhaimin said since the court had found no prima facie case against him, it discharged and acquitted him.
“I wish to make it clear that the issue is not new. It has already gone through the legal process, and the court has made its decision.
“Bringing up this matter again and attempting to create a negative perception of me is irresponsible and politically motivated,” he said when contacted.
He warned that he would not hesitate to take legal action if the matter continued to be circulated.
“I will not allow my name and reputation to be exploited for anyone’s political interests.
“I will defend my dignity, integrity and good name through the proper legal channels. The truth cannot be distorted. The court’s decision speaks for itself,” Muhammad Muhaimin said.
Khoo, speaking at a Pakatan Harapan press conference, said voters in Ayer Keroh had a right to know the status of the case before deciding how to vote.
Muhammad Muhaimin was charged in the Sessions Court in November 2023 with submitting false details on the disposal of two official vehicles of a state-owned agriculture development company and pleaded not guilty.
The Star has contacted Khoo for comment.
Ayer Keroh is a four-cornered fight involving Pakatan’s incumbent Kerk Chee Yee, Melaka Gerakan chief Gan Peng Lam, Bersama’s Muhammad Muhaimin and Mohammad Hamnaim Mohamad of Bersatu.
