KOTA KINABALU: Two of Sabah's largest multiracial parties, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Sabah STAR, are set to convene this Saturday (July 12) to discuss their preparations ahead of the state polls.
The joint convention, to be held at Hongkod Koisaan in Penampang, will focus on strengthening political cooperation, tackling current issues and consolidating grassroots support in the lead-up to the state election.
Over 5,000 delegates, including party leaders, members and supporters, are expected to attend.
The event is expected to be officiated by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Leaders of other GRS component parties have also been invited.
The gathering comes on the heels of the memorandum of understanding signed between PBS and Sabah STAR on April 18, 2024, a landmark agreement aimed at ending decades of disunity among Sabah's multiracial parties and ensuring better coordination within the ruling coalition.
PBS acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam and Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan are scheduled to deliver keynote addresses outlining their shared vision and the path forward as the state heads into election mode.
The joint PBS-Sabah STAR convention will mark a critical milestone in the coalition's election preparations, particularly as both parties aim to avoid seat clashes that had previously undermined their chances under the GRS banner in 2020.
With unity now at the centre of their strategy, the convention signals a renewed focus on collaboration and a collective push for continuity under GRS leadership.
