Govt committed to strengthening aerospace ecosystem, says PM Anwar

RIO DE JANEIRO: The government is committed to strengthening the national aviation industry ecosystem and is ready to assist investors in achieving this goal.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated this will be accomplished through investor-friendly policies, local talent development, and high-impact technology collaboration.

According to him, this aligns with the government's aspiration to position Malaysia as a leading aerospace hub in the Asean region, boasting a highly skilled workforce and a robust, competitive industry ecosystem.

Anwar made these remarks in a statement following a meeting with a delegation from Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, led by its President and CEO Francisco Gomes Neto, here on Monday (July 7).

The meeting was held to discuss strategic investment opportunities, the Prime Minister said, who is here to attend the 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit taking place from July 6-7.

Additionally, he mentioned that discussions also touched on Embraer's potential investments in Malaysia, including collaborations with national airlines.

"I emphasised the Government's commitment to strengthening the aviation industry ecosystem," said Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister.

He stated that Malaysia welcomes Embraer's participation in developing maintenance centres, pilot training, supply chains, and low-carbon aircraft innovations in line with the Madani Economy framework and the National Aerospace Industry Master Plan 2030.

Anwar also appreciated Embraer's interest in strengthening cooperation in the defence sector through efforts to enhance the air mobility capabilities of the Malaysian Armed Forces.

"The government is committed to ensuring that all forms of cooperation translate into high-value job opportunities, technology transfer, and inclusive economic growth for Malaysians," he said.

Embraer, a global aerospace company headquartered in Brazil, is involved in commercial and executive aviation, defence and security, and agricultural aviation.

The company designs, develops, manufactures, and markets aircraft and systems, providing after-sales services and support to customers.

Since its establishment in 1969, Embraer has delivered over 9,000 aircraft to its customers.

In the meeting, the Embraer delegation also included its Vice President of Global Institutional Relations, Jose Serrador Neto, and Senior Vice President, Head of Asia Pacific Region, Raul Villaron.

Anwar was accompanied by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz. - Bernama
