Hamzah Zainudin's father-in-law passes away two weeks after fire claimed life of mother-in-law


IPOH: Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin's father-in-law, who was rescued from a house fire that claimed the life of his wife, has died just two weeks after the tragic incident.

Datuk Abdul Ghani Ngah, 83, passed away at about 1.45pm at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital on Saturday (July 5).

Abdul Ghani had been receiving treatment at the hospital following the fire incident at his home in Kampung Sungai Rapat near here on June 19.

The Opposition leader’s office confirmed the news to Bernama, stating that Abdul Ghani had been warded in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering breathing difficulties as a result of the blaze.

His remains will be brought to Masjid Kampung Melayu Sungai Rapat near here for funeral prayers after Isyak tonight and will be laid to rest at the Kampung Rapat Jaya Muslim Cemetery.

During the fire on June 19, Abdul Ghani’s wife, Datin Salmiah Nyak Matt, 84, perished after she was found unconscious in a downstairs bedroom by firemen.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad had confirmed that the fire involved a double-storey house with six occupants. Four individuals, aged between 18 and 49, escaped unharmed.
