No promotions for obese MACC officers, personnel from Jan 2026, says Azam Baki

KOTA BARU: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers and personnel who fail to meet a maximum Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement of 27 will be ineligible for promotion starting January 2026, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The MACC chief commissioner announced a six-month grace period for all MACC personnel to achieve an ideal body weight here on Thursday (July 3), Sinar Harian reported.

"This directive is implemented to prevent obesity issues among MACC personnel, who are public servants," he said.

"No promotions will be granted to those exceeding a BMI of 27 from January onwards. The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has set a BMI limit of 26, and we, as a crucial government department, are taking a similar step," he said during a press conference on Thursday.

Earlier, he attended the retirement ceremony of the Kelantan MACC director Rosli Husain where Rosli handed over duties to the new Kelantan MACC director Azmin Yusuff.

Azam emphasised that all MACC divisions, whether at headquarters or state levels, must undergo health checks every three months at government hospitals. He noted that public servants with weight issues are undoubtedly more exposed to various health problems.

Azam stressed that obesity in public service must be prevented and should not occur.

"When MACC officers and personnel maintain a healthy weight and appearance, it facilitates all aspects of their work delivery to the public," he added.
